LooseBinding Books was created on a restaurant napkin.
A couple years ago, my wife and I were out for dinner with good friends celebrating Valentine’s Day.
Our friend, Michelle, is an established author who has steadily honed her writing craft with lots of hard work and a recent book deal. She was just getting ready to publish her fifth book through a traditional publisher.
But she had a new idea for a book outside her normal genre. It was a book about the craft of writing – how to stay motivated as a writer, how to create a plot, how to create characters people want to read about – that sort of thing. She intended to compile these from assorted blog entries she’d written over the past several years. Her blog readers were asking for such a resource. She was giving it some serious thought.
“Michelle, we’ve been talking about self-publishing for some time now. Maybe it’s time.”
Her reply launched this website. She said, “All I want to do is write. Maybe you should be my publisher and we’ll do it together.”
We brainstormed a bit at the table over dessert. I scribbled a few notes on a restaurant napkin. That became the start of LooseBinding Books.
Weeks passed. She gave me her completed manuscript. A few months later, four to be exact, her book rolled off the press just in time for her to sell at her author’s table after a speaking engagement. LooseBinding Books was born.
Our goal is very simple: help authors publish their books. Do you have a manuscript? Let’s turn it into a book.
